In collaboration with our partners at Disney Alliance, we worked together to create a magical piece that celebrates Disney’s 50th anniversary with Citizen Clocks.
We collectively landed on a homage to a paper cut out animation, one of the oldest techniques of the medium!
Our goal, to produce digitally while emulating an aesthetic that felt hand-made - embracing the warm, charming imperfections of older animation methods. We introduced dynamic camera motion and transitions throughout our paper world “stage” to maintain a kinetic, magical energy.
Designed in Photoshop, we played with positive and negative space to create simple and recognizable characters and iconography that looked like hand cut paper. The world and its elements were composited in AfterEffects, adding layered environmental plains to each vignette, as well as various optical effects such as blurs, glows and texture to complete the final look.
